African Americans are often underrepresented in the world of politics, television, and history. However, in the multi billion dollar consumer market African Americans are at the top of the list. The Negro dollar is a powerful tool, worth about $688 billion, that is responsible for the success of countless products, companies, and individuals.

African Americans are considered prime spenders and therefore advertisers spend tremendous amounts of money to compete for the Negro dollar. Many advertising campaigns are failed attempts to embrace the urban culture and wind up just exploiting it.   Another unfortunate fact is that many of the products that are targeted towards the African American community wind up being more harmful than beneficial. For example, cigarette ads, malt liquor ads, and credit advertisements. It is impossible to open up any urban magazine without seeing theses types of ads. These products will remain nameless to prevent further promotion of their “poison.”

African Americans are single handedly responsible for the success of many immigrants that come to America. The U.S. government provides countless opportunities for theses immigrants to open up liquor stores in the urban community. As a result these storeowners get ric h from selling liquor, cigarettes, check cashing, and basic supplies at overly inflated prices to poor individuals. This cycle is constantly removing money from the African American community without putting anything back into it. If this money was used to patronize Black owned business the Negro dollar can be recycled throughout the African American community.

African Americans are also responsible for turning ordinary brands into household names. For example many clothing and apparel companies have significantly increased their profit margins due to the fact that African American role models unconsciously endorse their products. Everybody from Tommy Hillfiger to Nike have benefited from the Negro dollar.

The bottom line is that African Americans need to utilize the power of the  Negro dollar to gain influence in other arenas of life.

Its True
We as people are so concerned about material objects N things to take away the pain, that we don't realize we are only making it harder on ourselves. Its like a cycle they created to keep us down, keep um in da hood, keep um drunk, and if they make to much money selling our drugs, lock um up. We need to wake up and realize just how much power we as people actually have. And you know what, the shit they are doing is working so good, that I don't think things well ever change. The more aware we are about things like that, the more attention we bring to ourself, the harder we'll get hit unless we all unite. Look at The black panthers. Look at any black leader who was actually getting peoples attention. Its sad man.

the real
corporate america can give a fuck about us wanting our "negro dollar" used to support african american business and communities in which we live. the ball is in their hands. for example, all the successful blacks we look up to. such as michael jordan, tiger woods, are all pawns used by the powers that be to trick our minds into thinking that just because they say so <<<<<<< the product is worthy. african americans will never have a sense of true power in this country unless they are shuckin and jivin', jumping out of the gym, telling fictitious stories about the bodies they caught and drugs they have dealt, our backs were broken in the physical upbringin of this country and now our minds are being jerked around like a puppet on a string. until we as people stop endorsing ignorance we will never learn to appreciate reality.

Can't get right...
I think if we as Minorities start sticking together as one and stop buying bull that will kill us I think we'd make it alot further. See so many of us hate our own kind to the point of actually hating our selves. So we chose to be like someone else or looking for a title to cling on to like ummmm "Thug" I am no a thug nor do I care to be but I will tell you this. I think we look for ways to make ourselves better but not the next man everyone is out for self and can't no one make it by themselves. We do need to stick together spend money with the black community and stop buying clothing and other items from people that don't either support the community and don't give a damn about us.
