Yes it’s me folks, Jonny Boy in the flesh here to bring you the latest in hip-hop tid-bits and rumors. If you read my column last week I spoke on how the rumor mill was churning that Lil Wayne is already hard at work on Tha Carter IV. Well the rumor mill is still churning about hip-hop’s IT boy as people are now saying that Tha Carter IV will be a rock based album. We’ve all seen Wayne headed in this direction. I mean look at the clothes and the guitar he occasionally strums a note on not to mention the tattoos, Kevin Rudolph signings, etc.  But a whole album? I really don’t know man. It would be interesting to say the least. I can’t front, I bump “Let It Rock” on a regular basis and if you saw me in the whip rocking’ out to it you might think I was a fool, probably because I am a fool.

Still keeping things Weezy related, Juelz Santana is saying that the highly anticipated and loooooong awaited collaboration album with him and Lil Wayne , Can’t Feel My Face ,is already done. He claims that as far as music goes it’s a wrap and the both of them are just waiting on the right situation to come along. You know how the politics goes but I am definitely looking forward to his. I am a fan of both and together I think they would make some incredible shit. Did anybody else see Wayne Your browser does not support inline frames or is currently configured not to display inline frames. TRONG>on that college football talk show? I’m not big on college football so I’m not to up on the show but I thought it was hysterical how un-rock star like Weezy looked. He looked, well, normal. He was quite articulate too, which brings me to the next rumor.

Rumor has it that Weezy is finally off the syrup. Everybody who’s into hip-hop knows that Wayne is rarely seen without his Styrofoam cup and then there’s all the lines in his songs to back it up like, “I like my Sprite Easter pink”. But really he never denied it and I once heard him describing the withdrawal symptoms as feeling like “death in your stomach”. Anyway if he is off the garbage I gotta give him his props. If I just sold three million records and was on top of the hip-hop world I would want to make sure that I’m here to spend all that paper too.

But I gotta step off the news and rumors for a second here. At first I wasn’t a Weezy fan at all but I admit he grew on me and I started bumpin’ “Lollipop” more than a 13-year-old girl from New Orleans. But my question is this; do ya’ll think Wayne could ever put together a fully comprehensive album a la Illmatic or Reasonable Doubt? I don’t know if he can and I’m gonna tell you why. I feel like Wayne runs out of things to say. I feel like his verses start off incredibly strong and then he fades off into gibberish and mumbling that have nothing to do with what he’s talking about. I’ve heard him switch topics from Katrina to fuckin’ bitches in the blink of an eye.

The “Lollipop” remix started off bangin’ but then Wayne went into his no man’s land of rhymes that make no sense. I mean I understand he doesn’t write but if his lack of writing is causing this problem then I would just pick up a pen and get to it. I think if Wayne started writing again his music would be that much better? But you gotta give it to the guy; he keeps Baby on top of the game without him really doing shit. I mean I doubt he has anything to do with Wayne’s music. So he probably sits around and does a little marketing but man Baby owes Wayne a lot. Wayne made himself the hottest artist in the game through a ridiculous work ethic and non-stop grind and Baby just gets to sit back and reap the benefits for Cash Money Records, which without Wayne would probably be distributed by Koch right now.

Wayne is one dude who can definitely say he’s carrying a label. Another thing I’m kind of curious to see is how the whole Young Money movement is going to unfold. There’s Jae Millz, Tyga, Mack Maine and a bunch of others that are supposedly down like Corey Gunz. The rumors are flying however that Nicki Minaj is not messing with them anymore which is a damn shame because I think she might be the prettiest female rapper ever to tough a mic, seriously that girl is bad. Anyway folks I hope you enjoyed this all Lil Wayne edition of Jonny Boy Speaks. Take care and be safe in all that you do. Peace and love. I’m out ‘til I’m back.
