When fans watch music videos of their favorite artist they only get half the picture of the real grind. All they say is the nice cars, big house, women, and men (for the ladies) no homo, money, and that’s it. They don’t realize that making that video during the course of some long days that artist is tired as hell. The thing is while they may love music, it’s still business and their talent being expressed is how they make a living. Artists are not always partying and when it comes down to it some just want to take a break, relax, and be a regular common individual.

After noting that down is what brings me to you an exclusive interview with Twista. As I said before these artist just want to have regular chill days like us. Twista when he’s not on the grind making music loves playing his video games. Yeah, it’s nothing wrong with that too, I mean I don’t know too many guys and some girls that don’t love playing Madden.

Twista loves his games so much that he’s now doing actual reviews on various websites on the hottest releases to on the illest game consoles. See, everybody got their little hobbies outside the music. Aside from the game play, on the other hand when it says game over Twista has business to handle.

Taking it back home to his hometown Chicago the Windy City speed-spitter is bring you GMG. Going to the o uter limits to make way for his GMG gang two main acts being pushed from the vet is Mello Tha Guddaman and Skooda. Ego is one thing that’s a killer in this music industry, but stepping aside to let the other man shine for the sake of hip-hop Twista is all for it, indeed too if the lyrics are dope. By the way see what’s good on the status on Twista’s next project.

Sixshot.com:  It is known that you love video games and doing reviews on them right now, so how is that coming along?

Twista: Man it’s cool and everything is coming along good with the video game stuff. I just reviewed two basketball games NBA Live and 2K9 with my man Tyrus Thomas. I’m just doing different things to let people know Twista is interested in more things than rap music. I’m just letting them know how I get down.

Sixshot.com: Do you think it was funny that fans were surprised to see that you love video games?

Twista: Probably some of them I always let people know I’m on top of the Madden and Tekken. They probably be surprised that I’m into as much as I am. They probably thought I played a little here and there. When I get to tell them about audibles (play call on Madden) and different things with different video games I think they do be surprised that I’m into it like that.

Sixshot.com: [Laughs], It’s crazy, because I remember when I was a kid I used to be on the video games from early in the morning till five in the morning. Did you have a video game addiction that bad growing up?

Twista: Not really, I had the Atari and all that, but I didn’t go hard until the Playstation came out. Once the Playstation came out I turned into a game fanatic.

Sixshot.com: So what’s your favorite game that your playing right now?

Twista: Madden yo! The Madden ’09.

Sixshot.com: Oh yeah, I don’t think you messing with me in Madden though [laughs].

Twista: Well that’s what they say you know, [laughs], I hear you.

Sixshot.com: Well you know everybody got their little trash talk [laughs].

Twista: [Laughs], I don’t even get charged off that question no more, I just be like “Oh for real?” [laughs]. But you might can whip me though, I’m cool but I can be beat though.

Sixshot.com: Well you know Madden is the hood classic, but what’s good with the NHL game review?

Twista:  Aw man that was cool, I didn’t even know much about hockey until then. I got into it really just to review the game, but I definitely have a little more appreciation for the game of how it’s played and everything. That’s definitely a sport I really didn’t pay a lot of attention too. Once I reviewed the game I started to pay a little more attention to it a little bit. I’m going to show my face at a few Chicago Blackhawk games this year and show support for the home team. Everybody shows love to the basketball and football teams, but nobody really reps hard for them. Now I can come out and go to the game to really rep for them.

Sixshot.com: Well they are the Chicago Blackhawks, so it’s no problem showing love to the hometown.

Twista: You got to go out there and rep for them, especially when they be getting their fight on. I know they hard with it so they will be able to tolerate this hard music with that, ya dig.

Sixshot.com: I just got off the phone with your GMG gang Mello and Skooda. They told me how it feels for someone like you that’s a legend in Chicago and in the game to show them love. What was it in you that made you decide to put them on when you realized their potential?

Twista: Man they just dope artists in the city. People come up to me rapping all the time and only a few people will catch your eye. So through the years, especially the past few years people that caught my ear was artists like Mello Tha Guddaman and Skooda.  That’s why they up first with this whole GMG thing I’m doing. A lot of people pick artist for their look or gimmick, but I’m someone all about the lyrics.

When I first started messing with them guys man I knew it was going to be something big, because they come with it man. They are some of the dopest lyricist I know even when it comes to artist out here putting music out. Forget your track record these hood niggas right here I’m listening too is saying shit that’s doper than all these niggas out here. I’m just repping hard for them man and making it possible to help launch their careers.

Sixshot.com: Would you say one of the most challenges when putting them on was “If they love Twista they gonna love them too.”?

Twista: Well not, really I think the biggest challenge I had to face is getting them recognition taking their career to a whole new level. Getting that nice distribution deal and things like that, just really getting them out there the way they should. I put artist out before with compilations and things like that was successful. It’s about proper timing and putting things out the right way, just really setting them up so they can move on. I want to be a launch pad for them guys. A lot of dudes try to put guys out just to eat off them and I’m not tryna do that. I’m tryna put them out and be the first nigga to put these guys out. These guys are dope and you gonna hear about them soon.

Sixshot.com: What is the hardest grind, being an artist yourself or putting out an artist?

Twista: Well both of them are, but the thing is trying to balance both of them. Once you put out an artist you have to know when to be a part of what their doing and when not to be a part of what their doing. You got know how to feed off of what your doing to fuel what they have going on. It’s hard being an artist by yourself, putting guys out, so it’s double hard doing both at the same time. It’s a lot of artist out there that’s real successful that got 10, 20 acts signed to they label that didn’t get put out yet, but they still put out records every year, but they still don’t know how to put that artist out. A lot of times too you got to lower your ego sometimes. Artist are so into what their doing that they don’t know how to lower their ego enough to let the artist that they deal with get some shine.

Sixshot.com: I read an article in a issue of Ozone magazine in which Wendy Day wrote an article in which she said it’s very rare that a artist will sign another better than them. Do you agree with that?

Twista: Oh yeah, who said this?

Sixshot.com: Wendy Day said it in a recent issue of Ozone in which she wrote a column about it.

Twista: Yeah, definitely a lot of artist won’t sign artist that are doper than them. I think the artist that I got is doper than me already. I just feel like I’m a veteran in the game, I do what I do and dope as hell, but I’m past that. Every artist feel like they can save the whole world at a certain point. Once I started hearing artist like Lil Wayne, Kanye, Eminem, that’s when I realized I wasn’t in this world by myself and it’s a humbling experience. Already I look at myself as a veteran and do what I do, but you gotta recondition your mind what they say. You gotta put out guys that’s doper than you.

Sixshot.com: Everybody knows Twista loves being an artist, but what Twista loves about being a successful businessman?

Twista: The perks man, being able to provide and not only buy the things I need, but what I want. Hard work pays off, it’s nothing wrong with letting a person know that after you work this is what you get. I think the things that I enjoy when it comes to my personal time being able to benefit as far as being a businessman is buying the cars I want, fix my house up, taking care of my peoples.

Sixshot.com:  What’s up with the next Twista album, is it still dropping on Atlantic?

Twista: Nah, it’s coming out next year not on Atlantic. That was the hiatus right there just really switching labels. My whole thing with Atlantic pretty much ran it’s course, then you got these new ways they do record deals right now. My thing was a little bit structured the old way so I had to go somewhere where it was more comfortable for me. For the ’09 I’m just refueling right now working on a bunch of cuts. I’m getting my label situation and contracts, all that straight, promotions and just coming hard for the ’09.

Sixshot.com: Ice Cube said it “Independent and loving it”.

Twista: Yeah, when you’re an established artist like me or Ice Cube it’s pretty much a blessing to be able to go independent. For me to have such a big following it’s going to be crazy, especially if you put out a good record. I’m just trying to get my money right and stay relevant. I got to do it for my guys GMG, they my main inspiration for really just going hard right now.

Sixshot.com: GMG got next!

Twista: Amen, them niggas hot to death too.
