Nicole and Natalie Albino are two sisters that will ride with each other through thick and thin. Living up to the well known saying that’s what family is for, these two twin sisters had their share of major label disputes.

It is not hard to remember back in 2004 when Nina Sky first hit the masses with their hit record “Move Ya Body”. You seen and heard this Billboard Hot 100 record everywhere just smashing TV and radio. The single was so strong that it even launched the duo’s self-titled album Nina Sky to gold status.

After that stint with Universal Records though, people wanted to know what happened to the beautiful twin sisters from NYC. Well we are here now to let you know Nina Sky is coming back and better than ever.

Much has changed for Nina Sky this time around. New label as they are now signed to Polo Grounds/ J Records as they claim this venture to be in their best interest. Not only that the girls are sharper than ever before as they can’t be messed with on the business side of things.

So what happened with their label situation at Universal causing them to want out and go another route? Ni and Na (get it Ni-Na Sky, from Ni-cole and Na-talie) break down the truth of what happens when your young getting instant fame an d it’s fast paced reality. Aside from that though the girls are down to earth and excitedly bring many details concerning the new album titled The Musical. “Secrets” a track from the album produced by Ryan Leslie is destined to be a hit, but do the girls have any?

Sixshot.com: Nina Sky, it’s been four years since you two released the self-titled album, so how it feels now to come out with a fresh breath of air with the new project?

Nicole: It feels amazing we’ve been working on this new album “The Musical” for the past three years. We worked with so many great producers from DJ Toomp, Salaam Remi, Cipher Sounds, Ryan Leslie, The Runners, Cool N Dre, Neo Da Matrix. We worked and written with so many great people it’s just exciting to have this project done.

Sixshot.com: Ya’ll first came out on Universal in which the first single was a hit “Move Ya Body”. The second single “Turnin Me On” didn’t fair so well, was there a lot of conflict from the label for the cause of that?

Nicole: Everything happened with “Move Ya Body” so fast as it was put out independently and we signed to Universal. Everything was happening really fast and then we put out “Turnin Me On” and the song was big as we performed everywhere we went worldwide and people responded. It wasn’t that the song wasn’t big it’s just that we didn’t get the support we wanted from the label with the track.

If the whole team is not working it not gonna go down the right way. That’s what ultimately happened, it wasn’t working out over there, we felt really disconnected, so we signed to Polo Grounds/J Records. So far so good, we finally done with this album, we recorded dope songs, and everything is moving smoothly. They (the label) understands the Nina Sky movement and it’s really dope.

Sixshot.com: When initially signing to Universal did ya’ll always see eye to eye when you first got on the label?

Nicole: You know what we were too young and we didn’t really understand the business. We signed to a label not knowing the logistics of anything, we didn’t understand.

Natalie: When we first signed it was all about making music, we weren’t trying to understand the business, because we didn’t understand the importance of it.

Nicole: We were excited to be recording an album and have our music played on the radio. We were so oblivious to what was going on around us as far as the business goes. It didn’t play out the way we wanted to, but this time around with Polo Grounds/ J Records we learned so much. We matured as young women and are very involved in the creative process and the business process. It’s cool and they encouraged us to be involved, it’s very hands on and it’s dope.

Sixshot.com: Yeah, because it seemed everything was on point as the album seemed to go gold?

Nicole: Yeah, we was excited, it was dope.

Sixshot.com: As a group, especially being sisters I’m pretty sure ya’ll rely on each others chemistry to put out good music. I would like to know though is it only right for ya’ll to pursue a career in the industry together?

Nicole: We always say this when asked this question. Even if we were doing separate things we would always be involved on each others project. Like if Natalie decided to put out a project by herself I’m still be behind the scenes writing or somehow involved in it. If I put out a project it’s gonna be the same thing. Even when I DJ she’ll be there and I’ll be like Nat what do I play next, or if she does something she looks for me to cosign. That’s how we work, we a team.

Sixshot.com: Like they say Ni and Na knows best!

Nicole & Natalie: [Laughs together].

Sixshot.com: The skies the limit!

Nicole and Natalie: Yeah!

Sixshot.com: I did some research and it was said Nina Sky wrote ya’ll first song at seven called “Sisters”. Is it possible you will remake that song and put it out to the masses?

Natalie: You know we considered it, so we might do it one day.

Sixshot.com: But what it’s like being sisters in the industry knowing the group is tight already through family?

Nicole: We only benefit from that, because a lot of times when you see these groups they are out together buy a label. It’s like hey you got a nice voice, you got a nice voice, we gonna put ya’ll to work together, but you don’t know how their personalities gonna work together. We lived with each other our entire lives, we friends, we were born on the same day. From that moment on we’ve been best friends, we’ve worked together really well and that energy is there. The vibe is already there you know.

Sixshot.com: We already know the good advantage, blood is thicker than water.

Natalie: It’s a great advantage.

Sixshot.com: You know they say with twins you got the evil twin and the good twin, so who is who?

Natalie: It depends on what day, sometimes we switch it up. Sometimes Nicole’s evil, sometimes she’s a good twin, sometimes I’m evil, and I’m the good twin. It depends on what day you talk to us.

Nicole: Evil is a harsh word though, grumpy is better.

Natalie: Moody, that works.

Sixshot.com: So what would you say is the main thing that separates ya’ll two?

Nicole: You know what were very much alike and I think what separates us is our interests our different. Like I DJ and Natalie doesn’t DJ, Natalie designs and I don’t. That’s one of the things that separates us. Were very much alike as we spend a lot of time together.

Sixshot.com: Let’s talk about the album The Musical. It was said the album was supposed to be released last summer which is now to drop soon. Do you think releasing the album now is better as opposed to last year and if so why?

Nicole: When we said we were going to release the album we were saying it was going to be released on Universal. If we released that album on Universal we would have not felt great about it. They didn’t support us the way we wanted with our first album. So we definitely didn’t feel like they was gonna support us the way we wanted with this album. Now we are with Polo Grounds/J Records and we feel like they understand what were doing.

We have the backing that we need and we are all playing as a team. We definitely don’t feel like that extra year hurt our career. We just feel like it made us better. With that extra year we’ve been in the studio with way more producers, way more writers, that made the album twenty times doper. Were excited even though it is a year later, because the album right now is crazy.

Sixshot.com: Well it’s nothing wrong that Polo Grounds is swinging ya’ll in the right direction.

Nicole: Yeah, we’ve been really blessed to be at a label that understands who Nina Sky is.

Sixshot.com: A lot of artist get so amped up when getting their first major label record deal. A lot of times the first deal is not the best option. With you two having experienced that situation, what advice would you give to let artist know you have to do better research before you sign somewhere?

Natalie: When we got into this industry we were really young and we looked at it like we were given the opportunity to do what we always wanted to do. We didn’t think about the business part, we didn’t think about any of that.

Now in the music industry we understand it’s important to understand the business aspect of it too, because if you don’t your just the labels puppet. Your only gonna make it so far and they just gonna take advantage of you. That’s the best advice we can give. You need to learn what you need to learn and really understand what’s going on around you.

Sixshot.com: You know what I noticed in this interview the difference between ya’ll?

Nicole: What?

Sixshot.com: That one likes to talk more than the other [laughs].

Natalie: [Laughs]

Nicole: [Laughs], There you go.

Sixshot.com: I’m feeling the new song “Secrets” that was said to be produced by Ryan Leslie. I would like to know though do you believe in the statement “What somebody don’t know, won’t hurt”?

Nicole: That’s kind of messes up, I think it’s important to be honest.

Natalie: Yeah!

Nicole: But everyone keeps secrets and that’s just a fact of life. You have to accept that everyone keeps secrets. But if it’s going to be hurtful to someone else then you should tell them, that’s important.

Natalie: Yeah [laughs].

Sixshot.com: So tell Q The Question, what’s some secrets about Nina Sky, we can be the first on Sixshot to break it?

Natalie: Some secrets about Nina Sky?

Sixshot.com: Yeah!

Natalie: We can’t tell you our secrets, then it won’t be a secret anymore.

Sixshot.com: It’s gonna be exclusive, one time only!

Nicole: An exclusive secret?

Sixshot.com: Yeah, now it’s the time to air it out.

Nicole: You can’t trick me [laughs].

Natalie: We don’t have any secrets [laughs].

Nicole: That’s why I’m keeping secrets [Nicole sings chorus of “Secrets” from album]. We don’t know.

Sixshot.com: So I guess its going to be no secrets for Q The Question [laughs].

Nicole: No secrets for you buddy!

Natalie: [Laughs].

Sixshot.com: What it was like getting down with Ryan Leslie though?

Nicole: It’s dope, we love working with Ryan. We worked with Ryan many times on his album and he was one of the first producers we thought of to work with on his album. His energy is dope, he’s mad talented, even his music we love him as an artist. As a producer he is amazing, the vibe is just there and the energy is dope.

Sixshot.com: Ryan Leslie is a genius, I read that he graduated college at only 19.

Natalie: Yeah, he went to Harvard.

Sixshot.com: You can’t knock the brother for making moves.

Natalie and Nicole: [Laughs together].

Sixshot.com: So what makes “The Musical Album” musical?

Nicole: The first album was a lot of in-house production with Cipha Sounds and all that. This album we went out and got some of the most amazing producers that are out there. DJ Toomp, Cool N’ Dre, Neo Da Matrix, The Runners. Some of the dopest writers like Ryan Leslie, Salaam Remi, it just made this album so much bigger than the last album.

When you work with different people it brings out different sides of you that you didn’t bring out the first time. Or things like singing in higher keys or bringing out different melodies so that’s what makes this album a big album.

Sixshot.com: Nina Sky appreciate the interview for Sixshot.com, we definitely gonna support ya’ll. Final message for the fans out there?

Natalie: We just want to thank you for all the love. Look out for “The Musical” coming in Jan/Feb ’09.

Nicole: And check us out at www.myspace.com/ninasky. Thank you, you are a good interviewer.

Sixshot.com: Thank you, I tell everybody Q The Question is your favorite.

Natalie: [Laughs], Thank you.

Nicole: He is our favorite! [laughs]
