Taking A Look Back: Eminem Presents: The Re-Up printer friendly version Send this story to a friend!

The hip-hop compilation album should be a truly useful tool in the business but unfortunately most of the ones released have fallen very short. The music is usually sub par, the tracks thrown together, and most of all they usually don’t serve their purpose which is to expose a world wide fan base to up and coming recording artists.

The Violator album was one of the few that did well but it was released during a very prosperous time for the music business so that kind of clouds how good of a project it really was. The one that truly stands out and which I believe is the best is Eminem Presents: The Re-Up.

Besides selling a whole lot of units both in the United States and Worldwide it truly served its purpose which was to show the world the highly skilled but rarely used talent on the Shady/Aftermath roster. Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, and Cashis used this to their advantage as all three delivered dope performances throughout the disc.

The usual suspects like 50 Cent, members of D12, Obie Trice, Lloyd Banks, and of course, the host Eminem are all featured on the album as well. “You Don’t Know” and “Jimmy Crack Corn” were the stars of the show but the rest of the tracks made for a well-rounded album.

Stat Quo gets to go at it alone on “Tryin’ Ta Win” and “G et Low”. These two tracks showcase Stat’s lyrical ability nicely and are proof that he needs a release date ASAP. Shady’s latest protégé Cashis gets two solo tracks as well in “Everything Is Shady” and “Talkin’ All That”. The newcomer delivers like a vet and proves why he’s earned a spot on the dream team. “There He Is” finds Bobby Creekwater doing the solo thing and showing the world how deep the Shady roster really is.

On “We’re Back” Eminem brings Obie Trice, Bobby Creekwater, Stat Quo, and Cashis along for the ride. This is definitely a standout track and Em’s verse is bananas as he thinks about his place in the history of hip-hop.  Em also does his thing on “Public Enemy #1”. We get a rare treat on the solo Proof (Rest In Peace) track “Trapped”.

“Fully Loaded Gun” is another banger that finds Stat Quo and 50 Cent exchanging hardcore lyrics. “Murder” and “Whatever You Want” featuring some of the boys from D12 round out the album nicely. As I said before this album is definitely hot. Between the lyrical content and most of the production being handled by Eminem this was a solid effort. The main thing to take away from this album though is definitely the talent of Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, and Cashis.

[50 Cent]
Now homie I say I run it ‘cause I'm in control
Hypnotic, Hennessey, a couple shots of Patron
I have you feelin’ aight, I get you high as a kite
Party poppin’ shawty says she comin with me tonight
I ain't shoulder leanin’, I ain't snappin’ and poppin’
Either I'm bobbin’ my head or I'm just standin’ their watchin’
I'm a hustler I hustle; you can tell that I'm paid
And I protect what I got; I'm in the house with my blade
Nigga you front you gone get it, ok now maybe I said it
Cause I want you to tridd-ip, yeah I be on that shidd-it
You should see when I'm stuntin’, I flash the stones you be wantin’
Push the whip, see me rollin’, you can tell that I'm holdin’
I'm just doin' my thing, you know the Unit’s the gang
I got my grimy Shady with me you front you gonna have to get me off your ass
I pay the lawsuit and laugh, ha-ha
It's not a big deal it's nothing but some cash

[Eminem]
When me and Fif got together to do this music and movement
The more we became enveloped we just developed a fellowship through it
It's no pretend shit, it's friendship, me nemesis is your nemesis
Ain't for him, it's just media, see to them it's just images
But this shit is no gimmicks; this is blood in and blood out
When there's beef you just gotta know when to butt in and butt out
If there's a problem we solve it, we don't resolve it
It usually just evolves into one big brawl and we all get involved in it
We should all get a merit, this much beef we inherit
And wear it like a badge with honor, pass it around and share it
And let it go to whoever's holdin’ the most current beef on their shoulders
And their soldiers got their backs and it's over
But tonight, we ain't comin' here to beef with nobody
We came to party, Banks, Cashis and Mr. Ferrari
So is Shady Aftermizzath back in that ass? You izzask
Comeizzon, what kind of fizzuckin’ quizzestion is that?

[Cashis]
Pistol play ricochet, see where the victim lay
Slumped over bleeding J.F.K
H.K. to your chest plate cave
I'll ride to the death, do you rep that way?
Forever I'ma be a Shady 740 gangsta
Plus I survive everything you got in that chamber
I thrive off of danger, jumpin' in all beef
You keep talking shit now the squad done called me

[Lloyd Banks]
Enough holdin’ back the steam, Em let off a magazine
Dappadon Cappa queen mixed in with Cashis cream
Started off with half a dream, developed into what you see
Telling ain't my cup of tea, can't tell I'm a fuckin’ G
I'm on automatic when I'm at it, start static
And you splattered, shit shattered, I'm a walkin’ bitch magnet
Spit it how I live it, live it all the way to the limit
And I'm always on my pivot for my digits, you dig it?
