Warner Brothers announced today (September 25) that they are currently putting together a prequel to the 2007 blockbuster I Am Legend.

According to Daily Variety, Will Smith will reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville in the prequel.

The prequel will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character (Neville) the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.

A production date and release date for the prequel was not revealed.
