The entertainment business is always filling up with new faces faster than you can shake a stick at, and when it comes to modeling, the same rules apply. Unless you have a favorite, it can be difficult to keep track of all the beautiful women that will pass before your eyes at any moment. But if you do have a preferred list, than make sure Illinois’ Ladie Jae is penciled in on it.
One of the newest models to hit the scene, she brings her God-given looks, hard work and dedication to her craft. The fan of the Bachata group Aventura is also the proud owner of over 400 DVD’s with Scarface (every man’s number one movie) being at the top of her catalog.
The highly competitive newcomer of Puerto Rican and Italian descent has a weakness for Big Macs, but the camera lenses can’t find a single fault to prove it. So with that going in her favor, it won’t be long before she can quote the immortal “Tony Montana” and make the whole world hers.
Where are you originally from?
I’m from Chicago. Well actually North of Chicago but no one really knows North of Chicago, so I just say Chicago.
How were you like when you were growing up? Were you always into fashion?
When I was growing up, I was like a tomboy. I played sports, wore baggy clothes, and all types of things like that. I didn’t do any type of modeling, fashion, or art. I ha
ted the “girly” stuff, and I even threw out all my Barbie Dolls. [Laughs] It was basketball for me, along with bike riding, and playing with the boys.
What made you want to try modeling?
Well everybody told me I should try it, and at first I was like, “no.” Then people were telling me that I have a nice smile and nice eyes, but I never wanted to try it. And then a year and a half ago one of my friends that models was going out to Miami and one of her friends was a photographer and she showed me her photo shoot. So she said that I should just come with her and do a photo shoot, and just try it. So I tried it, and from there I got into Smooth Girl Magazine and everything has been snowballing since then. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. That’s why I say modeling chose me, I didn’t choose modeling.
Have you found it tough to standout in such a competitive industry?
I haven’t found it tough to standout. That’s because a lot of people are coming after me, so in that sense it tells me that I’m something different. I haven’t put 150% into going out there, because they’re already coming to me. You know?
Were you at all camera shy at first?
Actually yes I was—I like to take pictures, but with clothes on. [Laughing] I’m actually the photographer, I love to take pictures; so for me to be in front of the camera was something different, especially with the pictures that I take. I was shy at first, but I actually like the pictures with fewer clothes on better.
That’s something new… [Laughing]
Yeah. My photographer told me that I look better in swimsuits and with boy-shorts on, because they actually look better than the ones with regular clothes. When I do a photo shoot with casual clothes on I’m like, “I don’t really like this too much.”
Is there anything in particular you want to get out of the modeling industry?
Since it chose me, I want to take it as far as I can go. The next step would be acting, because I know with modeling; new girls and new faces come in everyday. It’s like, “Out with the old, and in with the new.”
What’s been the toughest part of the business for you so far?
Actually I haven’t had any rough spots yet. But I’m fairly new too; I’ve only been doing it for about a year and a half.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a movie-holic! I love to watch movies! I have over 400 DVD movies at my house.
You have over 400!
Yeah… [Laughing] That’s my addiction, movies! [Laughing] Besides that, I’m very competitive, I love to play pool, and I love to bowl, and just sports in general. Of course I like to go shopping and girly stuff like that, but I also like to relax. I don’t have too much time because I’m always on the go, or at work all day. So relief for me is just sitting on my couch and actually watching TV.
What type of movies are your favorites?
Action would be number one. I like Mafia movies like Scarface and Good Fellas those are some of my favorites. I don’t really like dramas, horrors are okay but I don’t really care for them too much—and comedy, of course comedy.
Is it tough balancing your job and modeling?
Actually I’m really good with time management. I have two jobs right now plus modeling, and I don’t find it stressful at all. My jobs are very flexible, and they know that modeling is number one. So when I have to go travel and do things they’re flexible with letting me off. Plus I’m management at both my jobs, so it’s easier for me to leave and do what I need to do.
Are you a couch potato, or a gym rat?
I have a very fast metabolism. I eat what I want to eat, but I do watch it every now and then. I’m not doing a very good job [Laughing], but I do my little workouts. I don’t go to the gym for hours, because I don’t have time for all of that, and I know it’s going to catch up to me one day. So that’s why I watch what I eat, but I’m not eating carrots and celery sticks—nothing like that.
What’s the food that you shouldn’t eat at all, but you eat regardless?
I have a weakness for Big Macs… [Laughing] They’re my favorite, but I know they’re not good for me. I justify it be saying there’s lettuce, cheese, and dressing on it. [Laughs] I used to eat them seriously; like everyday and that’s how bad it used to be. But now I’ll eat one once every few weeks, I won’t deprive myself of one.
What type of music are you mostly into?
I have a big weakness for Spanish music, and that’s my Puerto Rican side. I can’t just stand there when Spanish music is playing; I have to dance. It doesn’t matter if its Reggaeton of Bachata, those are my favorites. But besides Spanish, I like R&B and Hip-Hop. I used to rap back in the day, so I gotta like rap music.
Are you single?
I’m actually in a relationship.
Does your man like the fact of you modeling?
I talked to him before I did my first photo shoot to see how he would feel about it, and he told me to go for it. He’s cool with it, he doesn’t want to be in the spotlight, and he doesn’t want to go with me to places, or certain events where I go out as “Ladie Jae” but he does support me from home. But if I need him to go with me, then he’ll come with me. But lately I think he’s been worried about me going by myself, so he goes with me.
Are you the type of person to walk up to a guy if you think he’s hot? Or are you too shy?
I used to be super shy, but now I’m not as shy as I used to be. If I were really interested in somebody, I wouldn’t just see him and let him walk away. I would make my way by them, but they would probably be the first one to say something. But I usually don’t have a chance to be interested in somebody before they come and talk to me. [Laughs]
What’s the perfect man look like in your opinion?
He has to be confident, but not cocky. I know people talk about the “good guy/bad guy” thing, and I kind of like the bad guys. Then again, I think the good guys are probably better for me—if that makes any sense. [Laughs] But confident, honest, and loyal—he has to be all of those things that I guess a girl would look for. He also has to be secure within a job and have his own transportation; I’ve dated guys who didn’t have jobs and their own transportation and that doesn’t work for me.
What’s one of the funniest come-on lines a guy has thrown at you?
I have a lot of different ones, but nothing that really sticks out. Can we come back to that question? [Laughing]
