You go by the name DJ Untouchable and in the game these days it’s a lot of DJ’s. What is it about your DJing that can’t be touched?

My DJing is significant, what makes it magnificent is that my pops did it hands on. I learned from the best, my pops was not only a dj he is from Jamaica and is a great selector.  He taught me the ends and the outs, the do’s and the dont’s. It’s something that’s been passed down from generation so basically that can’t be touched.

You said your pops comes from Jamaica so talk about his musical influence and your career DJing?

Well I’ve been around my pops all my life so basically he gave me extra influence on music in general. He gave me that extra vibe and technique that can be done with two turntables and a mixer, taking certain skills and turning them into something extreme. Pretty much I’m influenced on the hip-hop and reggae side of music so I am able to take sound and loop it up and physically get my crowd involved. I love to play music and take the party to the next level.

Everybody speaks on their hard times when they first learned how to DJ. What was the case with DJ Untouchable when you first started?

Being from Philly pretty much when I first started it was me playing around doing the block parties. The block parties and cook outs was and still is cracking during the summer.  I always had a system, so I was the one called upon to DJ. Whenever we had the cookouts whether it was my block or my man from around the way block I was always the main hood DJ.  Over the year, I’ve pretty much have been testing my skills. I’ve analyzed other DJ’s of influence such as DJ  Jazzy Jeff, and the big hommie DJ Touch Tone  the best of the best out of PHILLY.  I’ve been playing with the scratching, the blending, the mixing, and just been doing something totally different.

When you got your first set of turntables were you always messing up and had crazy situations?

When I got the first set it wasn’t my first set it was actually my pops. He was there coaching me, telling me how to work them and how to play with it. It all came with the music and once I learned how select the right music for the listeners I was able to take the crowd under my control. After a little practice in Philly I was DJing in local bars in the hood. I was 15, 16, inside the hood bar killing it. It was crazy and when I left the hood to go to college I would still get request from people asking “When you coming back”? So every time I go back to Philly I show some love.

What was it like once you started building your reputation in the bars in Philly and then going to high school throwing parties DJing. How was it to start building that clout?

It was phenomenal, because my high school was always having events. It was then becoming a weekly affair. Everybody wanted parties and basically they wanted “Touch” to do their party.

Alright so what makes DJ Untouchable a good party rocker?

I check my crowd.  When I say I check my crowd I look for age and body movements. You got to see what the crowd likes and if the crowd ain’t feeling it you got to go in a whole different direction sometimes. That’s just part of being a DJ to feel the crowd and move it.

When your on the scene in the club rocking parties what is the one record that comes to mind that the crowd just goes crazy every time?

Right now if I throw on anything by lil wayne the crowd would just go crazy. That’s pretty much one of the hottest rappers in the game right now.  Also, reggae is becoming more enhanced to  the people and I never going to stop playing it.

You have a lot of artists that want to get in the rap game and get their careers popping? Everybody knows that you have to go through the DJ to get your records heard. How should an upcoming artist approach DJ Untouchable when it comes to getting his music played?

Just come to me on a respectful note with what you got. If what you got is hot I’m definitely gonna play it in the club or put it on a mixtape. To get in touch with DJ Untouchable all you got to do is go to my myspace www.myspace.com/theuntoucabledj and send me a message. My number is up there and everything so all you got to do is call me and tell me “I got some new shit”. If that shit is hot I’ll take it t my street team to listen to it inside the studio and we’ll decide. It’s not just DJ Untouchable it’s the whole Untouchable mix team.

What is the one thing that you hate that an artist tries to pull of off when it comes to playing their music?

One thing is don’t be hype with it, let me decide. You can’t keep telling me it’s hot and keep asking me to play it. If that shit ain’t hot I’m a tell you why your shit is not hot. I got a street team and anything I put in the streets or on a tape my street team listen it first. I mean if they not feeling it ain’t going on the mixtape. Don’t keep asking me to put that shit on the mixtape if that shit ain’t hot.

Hey, at least you keeping it real and honest.

Definitely that’s the only way to be man. I show niggas love and niggas show me love, but I’m not going out my way if your shit ain’t hot.

You have some mixtapes in the works coming out so talk about that whole process and why they will smash the streets?

Well you already know Touch down Vol 1 is out that will be a series.  The Quiet Storm is out and that will also be a series for the summer. Big shout outs to the whole Philly, My Hood-15 and Duncanon . Street Knowledge Entertainment, Swat Team , The Teamsterz and everybody on the grind.
