Well, I don’t know how, but it must have been by some accident that Ali G.’s soundtrack to his new movie called “Indahouse” appeared in our P.O. box. At least I do not have any explanation for this, but, well, let’s get into the record, it won’t take me that much time.
There’s hardly anything new on the record, and, of course, there’s not that much hip hop on it too. Adam F features the Mash Out Posse (M.O.P) on “Stand Clear”, a track which is a couple of years old. Then we go back to the late 80s and come “Straight Outta Compton”, performed by N.W.A. Ali G and Shaggy get it on with their new single “Me Julie”, which has really nothing to do with hip hop, but either way, it’s on the record. Foxy Brown spreads some Jamaican love with Spragga Benz and is like “Oh Yeah”, Ja Rule tells everyone to “Put it on me”, and Vita sticks with him, Mis-Teeq does a remix of “This is how we do it”, which was way fatter when Montell Jordan did it, but Mis-Teeq has some real rap parts on the track which is dope. Nelly is still “E.I” (and, of course, oh-oooh!), Public Enemy “Fight The Power” (nothing new, they’ve been doing that for years and said that years ago!), and old school leaders Afrika Bambaataa live on “Planet Rock” supported by The Soul Sonic Force. A handful of skits in between and some other tracks not to be mentioned – that’s it.
See the deal? Much Ragga love and stuff, nothing really new (as far as hip hop is concerned), but his new hitsingle with Shaggy and some classics but each halfway attentive fan has al
ready heard those tracks a couple of times. Not a bad record, but not a hip hop record as well. Decide yourself… (Emm)
