G-Unit are pretty much hated wherever they go now. From rap snobs too interested in their underground and 90’s New York to young kids screaming “G-Unoooot”. Therefore this album can expect to have mixed fortunes when it comes to critical acclaim but does it deserve any acclaim whatsoever or is it going to be unfairly overlooked because of the label it carries? Let’s find out.
The album begins with the excellent club banger “Rotten Apple” featuring 50 Cent and Prodigy. More catchy un-thought provoking hooks and ego filled lyrics it seems, but a lot more enjoyable than some of what has came out of G-Unit recently. “The Cake” featuring 50 Cent is the next album highpoint with a catchy piano loop and some great use of samples. Again, the eerie piano loop on “Change” keeps things going and “NY NY” with Tony Yayois a good “let’s big up New York” track despite Yayo’s lethargic flow. “You Know The Deal” with THAT Rakim sample is another high point.
Summed up in a line, this is more G-Unit. It’s catchy hooks, it’s gun toting lyrics, but the production is better this time, there’s no “Candy Shop” and the album is more well rounded because of it. Enough bullshit, this is the best G-Unit album since Young Buck’s “Straight Outta Ca$hville. Bottom line.
