Twista, arguably the fastest coherent rhyming emcee, is back with the release of his fourth mainstream project entitled Kamikaze. Kamikaze is a dynamic album that embodies some of the same classic elements that where present on the artist’s previous releases such as Running off at the Mouth, Adrenaline Rush, and Mob Stability. On the new release Twista is able to create complete songs and memorable collaborations; while remaining true to his spitfire style. Kamikaze is definitely a trailblazing album that will put Twista back into the Hip Hop spotlight and reiterate why he was the first artist signed to Loud Records.
Kamikaze has a running time of 66 minutes and contains 16 tracks with absolutely no skits. The album has a good flow that provides the listener a smooth transition from the first to the last track. The album opens with Get Me, a profound song produced by Toxic, which serves to answer several questions pertaining to the emcees hiatus, skill level, career, and work ethic. Kill Us All is also produced by toxic and is a throwback to Adrenaline Rush, a previous collaboration between the two. Even though the beat is the same it still hits hard in the subwoofers and Twista doesn’t settle to for recycling lyrics. He drops three 16’s vicious rapid-fire rhymes that serve as warning to all contenders. Pim
p On is yet another track produced by Toxic and will no doubt be the anthem for this years player’s ball and several more to come. On the song the westside Chicago native teams up with 8 Ball and Too Short, one of the westcoast’s finest, for three verse of Game. Twista and Kanye West strike gold twice on the same album with two hot collaborations, Slow Jamz and Overnight Celebrity. Overnight Celebrity is another Game orientated track in which Kanye spits and infectious chorus over a smooth beat that will having females working it hard to a slow pace.
Still Feels so Good and Badunkadunk are two hot songs that feature Jazze Pha and Twista. Still Feels so Good was produced by Toxic and has Jazze contributing arguably one of his best vocal performances on the hook. This song fits the title, it has a vibe that is perfect for the syrup sippers to ride out to on a Sunday; in other words it makes the listener feel good. Jazze Pha provides the production on Badunkadunk, a strip club anthem that provides the perfect backdrop for slow table/ lap dances.
Drinks, So Sexy, Snoopin’, and Like a 24 are all dynamic songs with respect to the fact that the are club bangers that will have females dancing while at the same time have thugs quoting every verse. Drinks and Snoopin are both produced by Toxic while R.Kelly contributes production and vocals on So Sexy. Like a 24 features T.I. and is likely to be a spring break favorite. One Last Time (produced by Kanye West) and Higher (featuring Ludacrise) are two songs that are more on a gangsta tip and provide listeners with stunning lyrical jabs. Hope (featuring Cee-Lo), Sunshine (featuring Anthony Hamilton) and Art and Life (featuring Memphis Bleek, Young Chris, and Freeway) all add balance to the album. All three tracks make the listener think and reflect on similar situations that may be present in their own life. It is evident by the intensity of the emcees that every verse on these songs was written from the heart.
Verse 1 from Pimp on:
Peep how the Twist' puttin down the luchie while smokin a lot of dro
Whatchu know 'bout checkin yo' paper for a down-ass bottom hoe
Or snatchin yo' new fur model mink with the hood off the hanger
24-karat rings standin a half a foot off the finger
Custom seats are amazin tellin nobody could touch that bitch
Shoes my Maurie, piss by the month, he cut Shaq shit
Anything from my hoes when I ask, I get it
In the Cadillac I kick it, since y'all I wanted to be like macks and Bishop
Type wanna get up in the club, drinkin Cris'sy from a gold cup
Flossin my club, peepin persons yellin out "Chuuuch!"
Finna attract to trick politicians I'ma maintain pimpin
You can't change pimpin, from the Stone Age to the "Space Age" pimpin
From Southern mackin in Memphis to the playa mo' when you shoot to Chi
In the black diamond with fuchsia dye pullin out hoes like Supafly
All I gotta do is spit fo' lines
Now she got me chameleon gators with colors that flip fo' times
Now get yo'.
