Akia is the newest face in the world of R&B coming from NY by way of Southern Cali. Her style is similar to Janet Jackson in the sense that some of her music straddles the line between Pop and R&B. Although Akia does not posses the vocal power like some of the legendary divas [Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey], her distinct style of crooning highlights her sensual voice. Based on her first single Akia has the career potential to eventually become the Queen of the West Coast.
Akia’s debut album is an EP entitled Atruprncss. Atruprncss has a running time of 22 minutes and contains 6 tracks with no skits. The lead off single is California, which features rhymes from K’ream. California is a mellow track that embodies the southern Cali tradition of burning one while cruising on a Sunday. The song well suited for both the car or the club. The Production on that joint [and on the rest of the album] was handled by Koreem Osborne and Deanthony Wiley. The EP also contains a California remix, which is sub par to the original. Atruprncss covers the full range of emotion and demonstrates that Akia is a versatility performer.
I Still Love You is a poetic confession from the heart that exhibits the true substance a loving relationship is comprised of. Akia leaves no stone unturned on her album; Little Bit is a hot da
nce floor track that is definitely a lady’s anthem. The song embodies the proper balance of sexiness and respect that is reminiscent of a Destiny’s Child sound. The track Agenda also follows this theme, however it is a more up beat song that experiments with a blend of soul, pop, and techno dance. The song definitely has a feeling that is inspired from the singers professed love of dance. Pink Panties is another song the rides the mellow California vibe. Pink Panties is an ode to the singers drink of choice, pink panties, which has a Battlecat type beat and is the perfect song for the sunny summer days of Cali [or where ever your at].
