Boo and Gotti are Cash Money’s newest assets. The duo from Chi-Town finally drop their debut album entitled Perfect Timing. Boo and Gotti are probably best known for their Rockland affiliation with R&B sensation R. Kelly.
Perfect Timing has a running time of 61 minutes and contains 17 tracks with 3 skits/interludes. The Production on the album is top notch. Mannie Fresh handles most of the production on the album (10 tracks), while Kanye West donates his beats for two tracks (Gangsta and 600), Jazze Pha also contributes on two tracks (Ride Tonight and Hot Shit), R. Kelly supplies one joint (Dear Ghetto) and Cash Money in house producer Leslie Brathwaite handles the rest. Guest appearances on the album are mainly limited to members of the Cash Money family, TQ, Baby, Lil’ Wayne, Gilly, Mikkey, Lac, and Stone. Outside appearances include R. Kelly and Blackchild of Murder Inc.
Boo and Gotti seem to feel at home in the Cash Money Family. Their lyrical content is that of which one would expect from Cash Money, flossing, pimping, and gun busting. The two rappers are inconsistent with their word play and do not display their true lyrical ability throughout the entire album [especially due to the fact that they are known for dropping killer freestyles]. The lead off single Ain’t It Man features Lil’ Wayne and is prod
uced by Leslie Brathwaite. The song has a quality beat and a hot hook. However it does not display their lyrical ability and relies on familiar clichés [Lil’ Wayne should have spit a verse instead of just the hook]. The R. Kelly produced Dear Ghetto is probably one of the best tracks on the album. It is truly a heart felt ghetto testament laced with background vocals from R. Kelly. Out Here is another track that captures listeners and conveys true emotion. It is an introspective look into street life and offers listeners some food for thought. The song is a perfect blend of a good beat and good lyrical ability. The Chi-town natives have two tracks dedicated to their hometown, Chi-Town and Chicago. Chi-Town is a certified club banger powered by a Mannie Fresh beat, however Chicago is a true ode to the city. Baby Girl featuring TQ, Gangsta, and Girls Be Trippin are three stand out tracks that are among the best on the album mainly because the duo is able to display their lyrical wit.
Overall the album is worth checking out, but is a definite buy for those who are fans of Cash Money. The album can be listened to from beginning to end and is very entertaining. The biggest disappointment is the fact that Boo and Gotti fail to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Instead of shining as good emcees on top-notch beats they shine like above average rappers on top-notch beats. Therefore Mack 10 and Lil’ Wayne remain the top rhyme slingers on Cash Money [bringing both lyrical wit and complexity to the table on familiar hip hop clichés]. Hopefully the duo can increase their word play stunt to their fullest potential on the next outing.
