The Bad Boys II soundtrack is an all-star collaboration that features music actually used in the motion picture. P. Diddy is the executive producer on the project and manages to successfully put together a balanced and complete album. The album not only contains good artists, but it also contains good songs. Five singles from the album are blazing the airwaves this summer. The soundtrack is composed of 17 tracks, which includes an intro and 3 interludes.
The lead off single is Shake Ya TailFeather by Nelly, P. Diddy, and Murphy Lee. Nelly not only lends his vocals to the track, but he also acts as co-producer contributing on the boards. The second single released from the soundtrack features The Jigga Man on the Neptunes produced LA-LA-LA. The ROC represents once again on the soundtrack on the track Flipside. This track features Peedy Crack and Freeway spiting fire over a beat provided by Just Blaze. Fat Joe from the Terror Squad appears on the newest single to be released entitled Girl I’m A Bad Boy, which also features P.Diddy and newcomer Dre. Dre demonstrates his versatility by not only lending background vocals to the track, but also by producing the song. The most eclectic collaboration on the album is probably between P.Diddy, Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell, and Loon on the track Show Me Your Soul. Production on
the track is provided by the Neptunes, P.Diddy, and Lenny Kravitz. On the song Pharrell chooses to rap and demonstrates his lyrical capability instead of his trademark singing. Beyonce’ shines bright on the P. Diddy produced track Keep Giving Your Love To Me. The song is not a stretch as and goes right along with the type of sound that we have been hearing from her. Brooklyn’s finest makes a posthumous appearance on the soundtrack along side 50 cent on the street anthem Realest Niggas. Big Snoop Dogg stands solo as the only Westside representative on the album on collaboration with Loon entitled Gangsta Shit. The two different flows don’t really complement each other and Snoop definitely out shines Loon. Fox boogie brings her “A” game in one of her first appearances as a member of Bad Boy. Mario “Yellowman” Winans is also feature on the song performing double duty as artist and producer.Justin Timberlake fits in perfectly and adds a bit of diversity to the Album on the track Love Don’t Love Me. This is one of only two ballads on the album. JT shows no sign being a pop artist on his song, only the characteristics of a true R&B singer. Loon, the next leader of the Bad Boy family, has the opportunity to shine on his solo cut entitled Relax Your Mind. Loon gives a decent performance, while the song’s chorus is a blatantly rip off of Jay-Z’s Change the Game. The Queen of Hip Hop and R&B, Mary J. Blige, demonstrates with she remains at the top by her performance on the song entitled Didn’t Mean. The combination of Mary J. and Diddy definitely equals success, the song is reminiscent of the “What’s the 411” days of Mary. P. Diddy’s Making the Band sensations make their first album appearance with the track entitled Why. Da Band demonstrate their lyrical ability on the cut, and prove that they are no gimmick. M.O.P. are last members of the ROC to appear on the album with the track Wanna Be G’s.The duo not only spit fire, but drop ear candy with a self produced beat. Overall the album is worth buying. It contains something for everybody, from the ladies to the thugs and everybody in between.
