Camron has come along way from his tap dancing days at the Apollo in Harlem. After officially signing with Roc-A-Fella, he released the fire single "Oh Boy" and his third album Come Home With Me, which gave him his first platinum plaque. Meanwhile his Diplomats series of mix tapes introduced us to his fam… Jim Jones (Co-CEO of Diplomat Records), Freaky Zeeky (President of Diplomat Records), and Juelz Santana (Vice President of Diplomat Records).
This time around Cam returns with his delegates, or better yet, Diplomats…with the double CD... Diplomatic Immunity. For those who already copped the mix tapes… you get to hear the tracks without DJ Clue or Kay Slay shouting their Asses off every 45 seconds.
Disc 1
The album starts off with annoying interludes by newcomer Un Casa & Freaky Zeekey, which can easily kill all the hopes for the album. But after the time wasting interludes. Juelz Santana gets down to rapping on the Heatmakerz produced "Who I am." Which is probably the only gem on Disc 1.Over the Ojay’s sampled beat, Santana spits lines about his life and the shit he’s been through..He shows us he might have the ability to make a versatile solo effort in the near future. After an array of mediocre soul influenced joints… they fasten the pace of the album and hit us up with the" Hey Ma remix" which seems out of place. Shouldn’t this have b
een in Cam’s last Album? It’s more of a filler! Another new comer is introduced, who goes by the name of Hell Rell who can actually spit compared to Un Casa ..Unfortunately his bars are spat behind bars...I cant wait for this talent to come out!
Disc 2
Disc 2 is probably the best disc as it has featured guests and diversity. "My Love" featuring Freeway is obviously a well-executed track as Juelz and Free flow perfect over the beat! Cam who had a drinking habit that led to him to having a bowel disease which resulted in him losing weight, shows his new addiction to weed on "Purple Haze". They do an entertaining reprise of Bone Thug’s "1st of the month" on "The First" .The disc gets even better when DMX lends his vocals to the spine tingling bells & drums of "What’s Really Good" and we get rowdy rowdy with Master P on the third re -interpretation of "Bout It Bout IT".
Since Jay-Z's success with the soulful Blueprint (which was considered a classic)..Almost every rap album coming out now days contains a song with a soul sample…but with the Diplomats..95% of the album has soulful tracks..which makes it very weary listening. If you have noticed, I haven’t mentioned Jim Jones or Freaky Zeekey.Jim Jones has no lyrical prowess on the album, he do bust his 16 but he fails to grab the listeners attention. Freaky Zeekey is to the Diplomats what that dude with the mask on is to The St Lunatics..basically just riding with his boys and being responsible for the albums insignificant interludes. The album should have just been a Cam & Juelz Santana effort...cause the kid does have talent and they should have Hell Rell join them soon!. Mr. Sean Carter couldn’t hold a double Cd…I don’t know why Cam thought he and his crew would. The only good double albums from hip hop have been by 2pac (All Eyez On Me), B.I.G (Life After Death )and The Wu Tang’s (W). Hopefully if there is another Diplomats album they should have a different array of producers who can give more than soulful beats, Jimmy should work on his rhymes and Freaky should stick to just appearing on videos. The album gets 4 shots!
