In the Summer of 2001, a baby faced rapper from Brooklyn named Fabolous was introduced to the mainstream with a "dadadda here" and a" dadadada there" on Lil Mo's hit single "Superwoman. With a lazy flow comparable to Mason Betha and a bag full of punchlines...Fabolous was destined for greatness.
His debut Ghetto Fabolous spawned ubiquitous radio hits like "Young'n (Holla Back)," "I Cant Deny It" and Trade it All.No one seemed to mention his prescence as an Mc! ..Well because they wasn't none.He was just filled with punchlines, catchy hooks and his looks.
From lackluster reviews and sales..you would expect Fabolous to change his style but we get the same scoop we got from Ghetto Fabolous. Catchy hooks, punchlines and his good looks(which is now replaced by his throw back jersey game). It's not hard to notice he went to the studio expecting more radio rotation with tracks like "This Is My Party," the bouncing lead single that cleverly plays off the Lesley Gore classic "It's My Party," and "Damn," a slinky Latin-influenced track that benefits from a cooing hook of "Dayyymn."He tries to fool us that he is caught up in a love triangle with the very excellenty executed single"Cant Let you Go" featuring Lil Mo and new comer Mike Corey.
Like Ghetto Fabolous...Mr. Dadadada is not adept at putting together an entire album. Street
Dreams is a little too padded for its own good, and a handful of tracks suffer from all-too-familiar samples that have been used in recent hits by other artists (the Mary J. Blige collaboration "My Life," for example). Luckily for the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based rapper, the appeal of the album's best moments, coupled with its star power, compensate for any shortcomings, with appearances by Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Lil' Mo, and Ashanti.
Street Dreams sounds more like a Baller's fantasy..and is a good titled wasted..which would have had deeper meaning if released by a serious MC.
