The man who “2-Stepped” and “Walked” his way into an already burgeoning Atlanta Hip-Hop scene is back to see if lightening strikes twice with his sophomore album, 2econd Season. Leaving nothing pass, [DJ] Unk’s 2econd Season picks up right where Beat’n Down Yo Block! left off. Filled with simplistic rhymes, repetitive hooks, and that patented Atlanta-based sound that made the South the new face of Hip-Hop.
Songs like ‘On My Sh*t,’ ‘That’s Right,’ and ‘Show Out,’ don’t possess any wow-factor, but most likely the main objective of those songs are just to make you move from side to side while trying not to spill your Patron. ‘Wet Wet’ should be self-explanatory by the title alone, and Project Pat along with Three 6 Mafia further add their exploits about being with women who are capable of getting more wet than a runny facet.
Continuing to point his attention towards females, he enlists the help of “Mr. Porn” himself, Ray J on ‘She Freaky.’ The Ying Yang Twins help Unk create a new dance craze that should end up on YouTube if it isn’t already with ‘Sweep Da Flo.’’
Unk actually tones down the testosterone some and decides to compliment ladies on ‘You’re The One’ featuring Sean Kingston instead of degrading them. But in all honesty you’ll would probably have to read the
liner notes in order to find out it’s Sean Kingston doing a rendition of the ‘Freak Me’ chorus from 90’s R&B group Silk, because he’s also on the T-Pain bandwagon.
Nothing really stands out on 2econd Season, but assuming that Unk was out to make musical history is highly doubtful. He doesn’t stray too far away from the formula that made him a top selling ring tone artist two years ago, and by the looks of it, he’s hoping to duplicate that exact feat. Unk is one of those artists that is an acquired taste, and as time has shown us, Atlanta has the biggest taste buds in the business right now. So with that little morsel of information, he shouldn’t have a problem once again finding people to chew and swallow his material for the “2econd” time around.
